Detect and Deter: Drone Threats, Governance Gaps, and the Future of Icelandic Defence

Published with the Icelandic think tank Varða, this report sets Iceland's position within the European and NATO frameworks it operates in, and draws out what recent drone incidents across Europe reveal for Icelandic defence.

Drawing on the view from the institutions on the front line, it identifies three gaps. A defence thinking gap, a response-authority gap, and a standing-watch gap. It closes with policy recommendations, beginning with a written counter-UAS coordination protocol to bridge detection and response.
