New op-ed: when trust in AI becomes scarce

New op-ed: when trust in AI becomes scarce

For much of the past year, the debate over AI has been framed as a contest between regulation and innovation, as if the two pull in opposite directions.

In a new op-ed, Junior Fellow Fiona Neibart argues that the framing misses the current dynamics of the industry. AI is built on concentrated infrastructure with high fixed costs and on a small number of cloud companies that already occupy strategic positions across the market. Trust in systems and companies has become an economic advantage, and the question of which firms can supply it at scale, speed, scope, and sophistication is increasingly a question about infrastructure.

The piece is part of a series of op-eds written by TPI Junior Fellows.
